Death of Shashi Kapoor at the age of 79

The last offspring of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor died today at the gae of 79. The news was confirmed by Shashi Kapoor’s nephew Randhir Kapoor when he told the Indian press that the legend died as he was suffering from severe kidney problems since many years.


Shashi Kapoor belonged to the Raj Kapoor Family which was among the first families to invade Indian cinema. He started acting in 1940s and 1950s in films like Aag and Awara in which he played the younger version of his elder brother Raj Kapoor.

He started his career in the main lead with the movie Dharmputra in 1961 directed by Yash Chopra and there started a never ending journey of hits like Jaanwar Aur Insaan (1972), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Trishna (1979), Trishul (1978) and Kaala Patthar (1979). He was among the top actors of that era.

He married English Actres Jennifer Kendal in 1958. After that he started doing English movies alongside his wife like Bombay Talkies(1970) and 1982 hit Heat and Dusk.

Jennifer Kandel died in 1984 due to cancer. Shahi Kapoor has two sons, Kunal Kapoor and Karan Kapoor and a dughter, Sanjana Kapoor.
